Christmas is rapidly approaching and probably you still don’t have that special gift for your nearest and dearest. But this year you needn’t worry because life membership of the Barony A Frame Trust could be perfect for someone you know. The membership scheme, which launched last November has been very popular with local people and now has around 70 members thanks to the unceasing work of retired miner and Trust board member, Arthur Burley.
The Barony A Frame Trust has just received the best Christmas gift possible – a grant of £43,500 from Ayrshire LEADER. The award, which will be matched by monies from the Minerals Trust and SCORE Environment, will be used to provide training for volunteer guides and to carry out environmental improvements to the area immediately surrounding the A Frame.
The 8th November 1962 is a day which still lives in the memory of many local people because of the Barony Colliery collapse which saw the deaths of four local men. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the disaster, the Barony A Frame Trust is holding a memorial event on Sunday 4th November.
Local charity the Barony A Frame Trust, was celebrating last Friday when the Minerals Trust approved funding for a proposed ‘Heritage Weekend’.
